Instrumentation and control (I&C) is the art of measurements and control of various parameters of a process involving pure mediums such as gaseous, liquids, solid and mixtures such as slurries. The parameters measured includes pressure, temperature, flow, level, position, PH, conductivity, concentration, humidity through local indicators as well remote indication capable transmitters.
Instrumentation also includes the final control elements such as control and shutoff valves, solenoid valves, and servo proportional valves. Instrumentation jobs includes erection of instruments on the process pipelines, vessels directly and its impulse line hook up to the main process lines through piping, tubing.
The measured signal of the instrument is hook up to control system or monitors through a series of associated activities such as cable tray erection, cable laying & tying, cable glanding, wiring to junction boxes or marshalling panel. These signals will then become the interface of the operator with the process or machines for viewing, alarming about the process parameters. When these signals are logically treated in a control system like DCS, PLC for monitoring and control, the output commands are provided by these systems to the final control elements. Control system jobs involves erection of automation and marshalling panels along with proper earthing, wiring of marshalling panels, logic and HMI graphics preparation, tuning of control loops.
